Rug Care Instructions

Proper care helps preserve the appearance, shape, and lifespan of your ShahRugs handmade rug.

Routine Cleaning

Vacuum gently using low suction and without a rotating brush or beater bar. Vacuum in the direction of the pile. For small rugs, loose dust may be removed by gently shaking the rug outdoors.

Spills

Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry, absorbent cloth. Do not rub, scrub, or soak the rug. Work from the outside of the spill toward the centre. Test any cleaning product on a hidden area first.

Deep Cleaning

Use a professional rug cleaner experienced with handmade and tufted rugs. Avoid machine washing, pressure washing, steam cleaning, bleach, harsh chemicals, and excessive water unless a care label specifically permits them.

Furniture and Rotation

Rotate the rug every few months to promote even wear and colour exposure. Use furniture pads under heavy legs and avoid dragging furniture across the rug.

Sunlight and Moisture

Prolonged direct sunlight may fade colours. Keep the rug away from persistent dampness and allow it to dry completely if it becomes wet.

Loose Fibres and Shedding

Some initial shedding is normal for handmade rugs. Do not pull loose fibres. Carefully trim them level with the surrounding pile using scissors.

Storage

Clean and fully dry the rug before storage. Roll it with the pile facing inward, wrap it in breathable material, and store it in a cool, dry location.

Rug Pads

A suitable non-slip rug pad can reduce movement, protect flooring, and extend the rug’s life.
